Villanelle
A Villanelle comprises five three-line stanzas, followed by a four-line stanza. In stanza one, line one is a refrain repeated in lines six, twelve, and eighteen. Line three of stanza one is a second refrain repeated in lines nine, fifteen, and nineteen. See also Conjoined Forms.
The first and third lines of the first stanza are repeated alternately in the succeeding stanzas as a refrain, and form a final couplet in the quatrain.
