Newspoem 9 September 2002: Only Slow and Green

The reason we love to see explosions in films
Is that they remind us of nature
When a soldier runs across a field
Blooms of smoke rise from bullets
A row of bulbs embedded in the soil

The flash of a tree captured in action
Is like the way cars always burst into flame
The forest is exploding on the hillside
And when the actor is riddled with bullets
Rose blossoms pop from his chest scattering petals everywhere
